How to obtain the accreditation certificate required by Senescyt
The certificate of accreditation of universities in the U.S., which is part of the process to validate American degrees locally, is issued by the Fulbright Commission in Ecuador.
In order to obtain this certificate, you must:
1. Turn in a letter requesting the issuance of the accreditation certificate and indicating the purpose for which said certificate is required. The request must be put in by the degree bearer; if a third party is delegated to carry out the process, the letter must clearly state the name of the person authorized to represent the degree bearer.
2. Turn in a notarized copy of both sides of the official diploma
These documents must be turned in at the office of the Fulbright Commission in Ecuador, located on Almagro N25-41 y Colón, in Quito. If the person requesting the certificate resides in a city different from Quito, he/she will have to send the notarized copy of the official diploma via local courier to our offices. No electronic versions can be accepted. The notarized copy of the diploma will be returned to the sender along with the accreditation certificate via local courier as well.
The issuance of the certificate takes 8 days. The cost for the certificate is very moderate.
Note for former Ecuadorian Fulbright grantees: In addition to the 212 American universities that are currently recognized in Senescyt's official list, the Fulbright Commission in Ecuador has provided Senescyt with the list of all the universities where Ecuadorian Fulbrighters have completed graduates studies up to the year 2010. This list will be updated on a yearly basis. Note to the general public: For the process of recognition of degrees obtained in the US, the interested party may also go directly to Senescyt to verify the accreditation status of their university. In this case, Senescyt will request the certificate of accreditation from the Fulbright Commission at not cost to the customer.
