Reception at the residence of Ambassador Adam Namm in honor of Fulbright grantees
On Wednesday, May 8th, the Ambassador of the United States, Adam Namm, hosted a reception organized in honor of the 57 years that the Fulbright Program has been established in Ecuador and the 2,805 grantees, both Ecuadorian and American, who have represented the Fulbright principles. The event brought together members of the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Commission, staff of the Embassy and the Commission and Fulbright grantees.
Ambassador Namm made remarks about the powerful and renowed presence of the Fulbright program world-wide, the impressive number of grantees who have been part of the Fulbright experience from and to Ecuador throughout the years and expressed his sincere wishes for the program to continue to expand its sound presence in our country.
A highlight of the evening was the fusion of musical talents present at the reception under the leadership of Ambassador Namm, who played the piano and was accompanied by the former Fulbright grantee Andrés Noboa in the guitar and the singer and member of the board of directors of the Commission, Mrs. Lisa Markovits, in several pieces of jazz.
We wish to extend our deepest thanks to Ambassador Namm for his hospitality, his support of the Fulbright Program and for his always charismatic and thoughtful presence in the sphere of the Fulbright Program in Ecuador.

The Fulbright Program is a world leader in international educational exchanges. The mission of the program is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through educational exchange.
The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by Arkansas Senator, J. William Fulbright. Since its inception, more than fifty years ago, 310,000 "Fulbrighters," 116,900 from the United States and 192,800 from other countries, have participated in the Program. The Fulbright Program awards approximately 8,000 new grants annually.
The Fulbright Program was established in Ecuador in 1956 through an executive agreement between the governments of the United States and Ecuador to increase cultural understanding through educational programs. The binational Commission has a Board of Directors comprised of eight members, four Americans and four Ecuadorians, charged with the responsibility of overseeing the long-term objectives of the Fulbright Program. Approximately 1,825 Ecuadorian citizens and 980 U.S. citizens have become Fulbrighters since 1956 through the program in Ecuador.
In 2012, approximately 40 Ecuadorian citizens and 20 U.S. citizens will be joining the group of Fulbrighters who have worked towards the development and progress of Ecuador.
