"The Study of the United States" Program

The "Study of U.S." Programs are six-week academic programs for multinational groups of university faculty from abroad. Institutes are held at university campuses throughout the United States and focus on a particular theme or topic in American studies. 18-30 foreign educators participate in each Institute.

The purpose of these programs is to strengthen curricula and improve the quality of teaching about the United States in academic institutions in Ecuador. Each program includes two components: an intensive, four-week academic seminar and a two-week study tour designed to reinforce the academic content of the seminar.

Each year there are specific programs for secondary school educators and specific programs for university professors.

This program is fully funded.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sponsorship of the institution where the educator works
  • University degree equivalent to a B.A or B.S. at minimum and in the areas specified by each institute. Under the Ecuadorian educational system, this would be a Licenciatura.
  • English sufficiency level equivalent to TOEFL score 550 (PBT)
  • Ecuadorian citizenship
  • Demonstrated teaching experience
  • Ability to apply knowledge in field of work
  • Have not worked or studied in the U.S. in the past 5 years

For 2007, the institutes will be on:

  • U.S. Foreign Policy: Foundations and Formulation
  • Contemporary American Literature
  • Religion in the United States: Pluralism and Public Presence
  • American Civilization
  • U.S. Political Economy and the Global Economic System
